What is a Locally Operated Points System (LOPS)?
A Locally Operated Points System enables authorised personnel to operate powered points from a suitable local control position rather than manually operating points at track level. LOPS can operate independently or form part of a wider Depot Control or integrated Depot Operations System.
From Local Control to Depot-Wide Automation
FirstClass systems can range from individual locally controlled points to centralised, automated systems controlling multiple routes. Where required, automated movement control can be configured around agreed operational requirements and timetables. SCADA can provide operators with a clear overview of the depot, while secure login restricts control functionality to authorised personnel.
Integration with Existing & Mainline Systems
FirstClass can integrate with existing and legacy depot infrastructure and approved track equipment and, where required, interface depot control with mainline systems. The system can also exchange status and control information with Depot Protection Systems, Personnel Warning Systems, signalling, vehicle detection and other relevant infrastructure.
Degraded Mode & Operational Resilience
Systems can incorporate defined degraded-mode functionality, including controlled manual override facilities, allowing authorised operators to manage appropriate scenarios in accordance with agreed operating procedures.
Integrated Depot Operations Systems
Where both protection and movement control are required, FirstClass can combine Depot Protection Systems and Depot Control functionality within an integrated Depot Operations System. Bringing the systems together reduces unnecessary interfaces between separate platforms and provides coordinated control of personnel protection, points, routes, signalling and rail vehicle movements.
Upgrading Existing Depot Control Systems
FirstClass can assess existing and legacy points, control equipment and interfaces to determine what can practically be retained, supported, modified or integrated before developing an upgrade or extension solution. New control functionality can be introduced while retaining and interfacing with existing or third-party systems where appropriate.
