FirstClass Safety & Control has strengthened its in-house functional safety expertise, with engineers Sam Meyrick and Haroon Ahmed successfully achieving TÜV SÜD Certified Functional Safety Engineer certification.
The qualifications were funded by FirstClass as part of the company’s continued investment in the technical knowledge and professional development of its engineering team.
The certification focuses on Rail Functional Safety training and the EN 5012X series of standards, covering the principles and processes associated with functional safety, lifecycle processes and the application of key railway standards including EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129 and IEC 61508
For FirstClass, the investment complements the practical safety and control engineering experience within the business and supports its work designing, manufacturing, integrating and supporting safety-critical systems for rail depots and maintenance facilities.
FirstClass’s rail capabilities include Depot Protection Systems, Depot Control and Locally Operated Points Systems (LOPS), Personnel Warning Systems and electronic and trapped key Interlocking Solutions.
Managing Director Mark Meyrick said:
“Investing in our people is just as important as investing in technology. Supporting Sam and Haroon through the TÜV SÜD Functional Safety Engineer qualification strengthens the knowledge we have within the business and supports our continued focus on engineering safe, reliable and appropriate solutions for our customers.”
The achievement forms part of FirstClass’s wider commitment to developing its engineering capability and maintaining the technical competence required to support increasingly complex safety and control projects in the UK and internationally.
