The Brae Alpha platform is one of the oldest operational platforms in the North Sea. Situated approximately 170 miles north-east of Aberdeen. Until recently it was part of the Marathon Oil Corporation, an American petroleum and natural gas exploration company. Brae consisted of three platforms: Brae Alpha, the first platform which commenced production in 1983, followed by Brae Bravo in 1988 and finally East Brae in 1993, with subsea tie backs. The Brae Field is part of the Marathon Oil North Sea excavation operation, whilst the platform’s facilities are also used by third party companies. The oil and gas evacuated from this North Sea platform is then transported through a pipeline to the Scottish mainland.
Brae Safety Systems
Although there have been several discussions over the years about the decommissioning of the three Brae platforms, in 2018 a decision was made to decommission Brae Bravo only and keep the Brae Alpha and East Brae operational. Following this recent decision Marathon Oil approached FirstClass Safety and Control to provide a further extension to the existing ongoing 18-year Support and maintenance contract for the Brae Alpha Emergency Shutdown System. FirstClass engineers have been working in this field for many decades. Furthermore, they have the safety systems knowledge and experience plus the ability to provide adaptable customised solutions to keep the Brae Alpha platform functional and working. Supporting the long-established Alpha platform is very specialised and requires specialised knowledge, FirstClass can supply engineers who have the expertise to keep the safety systems on the Alpha in full working order.
